As a core member of our credit department, you will play a vital role in executing our lending strategy while ensuring the highest standards of risk management. Role Purpose

The Credit Officer is responsible for identifying potential clients, evaluating their financial stability, and managing a high-quality loan portfolio. By applying our institutional 5Cs and 4Rs frameworks, you will ensure that every loan disbursement aligns with our mission of responsible and ethical finance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development: Actively promote the institution’s loan products to potential clients and build long-term relationships within the community.
  • Credit Appraisal: Conduct thorough field investigations and interviews to assess the 5Cs (Character, Capacity, Capital, Collateral, and Conditions) of applicants.
  • Financial Analysis: Evaluate client business operations, cash flows, and financial health to determine repayment capacity and appropriate loan sizing.
  • Loan Documentation: Prepare comprehensive credit appraisal reports and ensure all legal and contractual documents are accurately completed and verified.
  • Portfolio Management: Monitor the performance of assigned loans and maintain a low PAR (Portfolio at Risk) by ensuring timely repayments.
  • Risk Mitigation: Implement the 4Rs (Re-payment, Rehabilitation, Re-scheduling, and Re-phasing) strategy when managing clients facing financial challenges to maintain institutional stability.
  • Compliance: Strictly adhere to internal credit policies, national regulations, and our institutional ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Management, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in credit operations, preferably within the microfinance or banking sector.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret financial data and evaluate business risks with a critical eye.
  • Integrity: Unwavering commitment to ethical banking practices and professional transparency.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse community members.
  • Mobility: Willingness to perform field work and site visits as a core part of the appraisal process.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with core banking systems (CBS).
